- You're ready to run live classes in LifterLMS
You run LifterLMS courses and want live Google Meet classes inside them. First you connect GoodMeet to LifterLMS. Then you attach live sessions to your courses and lessons.
A meeting can sit on the course page, at the top of a lesson, or both. Students see the date, a countdown when the class is close, and a join button while the class is live. Instructors can schedule classes from wp-admin, from the LifterLMS Course Builder, or from their own LifterLMS dashboard.
By the end of this guide, you will have:
- LifterLMS, GoodMeet and GoodMeet Pro installed and activated
- Your Google account connected to GoodMeet
- The LifterLMS integration turned on
- A live session on a course page and inside a lesson
- Only enrolled students able to join, with instructors and admins always allowed
- A clear picture of what visitors, students and instructors see
Estimated setup time: 10 minutes. Attaching a meeting never changes course progress, because the meeting is not a curriculum item.
Note: Requires GoodMeet Pro.
Before you begin #
Make sure you have:
- A WordPress site with administrator access
- A GoodMeet Pro license, for the Pro features in this guide
- A Google account that can create Google Meet meetings
- At least one LifterLMS course with a lesson, or a few minutes to create one
Important: LifterLMS cannot run beside Tutor LMS or Academy LMS on the same site. LifterLMS and Tutor LMS both use the lesson post type, and LifterLMS and Academy LMS both use the /course/ address. Run one of them per site.
Let’s get started.
Step 1: Install LifterLMS #
First, make sure LifterLMS is installed and activated. GoodMeet adds live sessions to LifterLMS courses, so the courses need to exist first.
- In the WordPress admin menu, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
- Search for LifterLMS.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.

If LifterLMS is already active on your site, skip to the next step.
Step 2: Install and activate GoodMeet #
Like LifterLMS, GoodMeet installs from the WordPress plugin directory.
- Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
- Search for GoodMeet.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.

To use the Pro features in this guide, add GoodMeet Pro from inside GoodMeet. There is nothing to upload.
- In WordPress admin, open GoodMeet and click Upgrade, then complete the checkout.
- Go to GoodMeet > Account. Your license shows there, and GoodMeet offers to install GoodMeet Pro.
- Install GoodMeet Pro, then activate it. If GoodMeet shows Activate Pro, click it.
Note: If you already have a license, open GoodMeet > Account and install Pro from there. GoodMeet shows Download Pro when your license is active but Pro is not installed yet.
Step 3: Connect your Google account #
GoodMeet cannot create Google Meet links until your Google account is connected.
- Go to GoodMeet > Settings and click Connect.
- On the Google Cloud Credentials card, upload the JSON file from your Google Cloud project.
- Click Continue to Google.
- Choose your Google account and approve access.
- Check that the card shows Connected.
Read our step-by-step Google setup guide for the full walkthrough, including how to create the JSON file.
Step 4: Turn on the LifterLMS integration #
GoodMeet only adds its fields and lists to LifterLMS pages when the integration is on.
- In the WordPress admin menu, go to GoodMeet > Integrations.
- In Categories, click Courses & LMS.
- On the LifterLMS card, switch the toggle on.

The card now reads Active.
Note: When the switch is off, GoodMeet hides the Google Meeting tab, the course and lesson fields, and the Live sessions list on LifterLMS pages.
Now comes the main part: attaching meetings to your courses.
Step 5: Open the meeting form #
You attach a meeting to a course from the same form you use to create the meeting.
- Go to GoodMeet > All Meetings and click Add new, or open an existing meeting to edit it.
- Fill in Meeting name and the date and time as usual.
- In the step list on the left, click Access and controls.

Step 6: Pick the course (Access and controls) #
The Add to a course card reads “Show it on a course page or in a lesson.” It lists every course you can edit.
- Scroll to the Add to a course card.
- Click Search courses and type part of the course name.
- Choose your course from the LifterLMS group.

Step 7: Choose where it shows #
A meeting can appear in the course page list, or as a card at the top of one lesson.
- In Show it on, keep Course page, or pick a lesson. Lessons are grouped under their LifterLMS section names.

Important: A lesson holds one meeting. If the lesson already has one, the card warns you: “Replaces “…” on this lesson.”
Step 8: Add the meeting to the course #
- Click Add to course.

To show the same meeting in more places:
- Pick another course or lesson in Add another.
- Click Add to course again.
Step 9: Choose who can join and save (Access and controls) #
Each place you added appears as a row in the card. Who can join decides whether the Meet link is for students only or for anyone.
- Check the rows. Click the × on a row to remove that place.
- In Who can join, choose Course students or Anyone with link.
- Click Create meeting, or Update meeting when you edit.

Note: Course students is the default. Enrolled students, the course’s instructors and admins can open the meeting page. Everyone else sees an “Enroll to join” message.
Step 10: Or attach meetings in the course editor #
If you are already editing a course in wp-admin, you can attach meetings there without opening the meeting form.
- Go to Courses > Courses and edit the course.
- Scroll below the content to the Live sessions box: “Shown on the course page.”
- In the meetings field, search and pick one or more meetings.
- Set Who can join to Course students or Anyone with the link.
- Click Update (or Save) to save the course.

Tip: Changing Who can join here applies to every meeting on the course. If you leave it as it is, only newly added meetings take the setting.
Step 11: Add a live session to a lesson in the Course Builder #
Many LifterLMS instructors build their courses in the Course Builder. Each lesson there has its own Live session setting.
- Open the course in the LifterLMS Course Builder (the Course Builder link in the admin bar).
- Under the lesson, click Settings.

- In the lesson panel, scroll to the Live session group.
- In Meeting, pick a meeting, or None to remove it.
- Click Save changes.

Step 12: Or use the lesson editor #
The classic lesson editor has the same field in its sidebar.
- Go to Courses > Lessons and edit the lesson.
- In the editor sidebar, find the Live session box.
- Pick a meeting, or None, then click Update.

Tip: All these places write the same data. A meeting added in the GoodMeet form shows up in the course editor and the Course Builder, and the other way round.
Step 13: Manage meetings from the LifterLMS dashboard #
Instructors who do not use wp-admin create and edit meetings from the LifterLMS student dashboard.
- Open the LifterLMS dashboard page and click the Google Meeting tab. It sits after My Courses.
- Click Add new to create a meeting, or the pencil icon to edit one.

- In the meeting form, open Access and controls.
- Use the Add to a course card as in Steps 6 to 9.

Note: The Google Meeting tab shows for administrators and for users with the LifterLMS Instructor or Instructor’s Assistant role. Students never see it.
Step 14: See it on your course page #
Once the meeting is saved, it appears on the course straight away.
- Open the course page on the front end, logged in as an enrolled student.
- Find the Live sessions list above the syllabus.

Enrolled students do not get the Enroll to join link. Each upcoming row gets a Details button. While a session is live, the row says Live now and the button becomes Join now. A countdown appears when the start is less than a day away, and the time shows the meeting’s time zone.
Benefits of using GoodMeet with LifterLMS #
- No links to paste into lessons: Each meeting gets its Google Meet link and calendar event when you save.
- The Meet link stays with enrolled students: Course students keeps it away from anyone who is not enrolled.
- Four places to attach a session: Use the meeting form, the course editor, the Course Builder or the lesson editor. They all save the same data.
- A dashboard tab for instructors: The Google Meeting tab on the LifterLMS dashboard needs no wp-admin access.
What students see #
Visitors and logged-in users who are not enrolled #
The course page shows a Live sessions list above the syllabus. It lists dates and titles with no join link, plus one Enroll to join link that jumps to the LifterLMS enroll button.

Instructors and admins #
Course instructors and admins see the same buttons as enrolled students, without Enroll to join.

Inside a lesson #
A lesson with a live session shows the meeting card at the top, under Back to.

On the meeting page #
Students who open a meeting from a course get a Back to course link at the top.

Someone who is not enrolled and opens the meeting link directly sees a locked card instead.

On a phone #
The Live sessions list fits small screens without losing any buttons.

Troubleshooting #
The Add to a course card does not appear in the meeting form #
The card only loads when a supported LMS is active and switched on, and the user is logged in.
Check that:
- LifterLMS is installed and activated under Plugins.
- The LifterLMS switch is on under GoodMeet > Integrations.
- You reloaded the meeting form after turning the switch on.
“No courses yet” #
The course picker lists courses you can edit, and instructors see only their own courses. Create a course with Create a course in LifterLMS, or ask an admin to make you the course author.
The Google Meeting tab is missing from the LifterLMS dashboard #
The tab shows only for administrators and LifterLMS Instructor or Instructor’s Assistant accounts, and only when the integration is on.
Check that:
- The user has an instructor role in LifterLMS.
- The LifterLMS switch is on under GoodMeet > Integrations.
If the tab opens a “not found” page, go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes once.
The Live sessions box or Live session field is missing in wp-admin #
The LifterLMS switch is off, or the box is hidden in the editor’s screen options. Turn the switch on, then show the box from the editor’s Preferences or Screen Options.
The Live session field is missing in the Course Builder #
The field is a settings group in the lesson panel, not in the course outline. Click Settings under the lesson, then scroll to the Live session group at the bottom of the panel.
Students see “For students of this course” #
The meeting is set to Course students, and this user is not enrolled in any of its courses. Enroll the student, or set Who can join to Anyone with link. Page access from GoodMeet settings still applies.
Students see Details but no Join now #
Join now shows only while the session is live, between its start and end time. Wait for the start time. The meeting page itself has the Meet link and a countdown.
An old session disappeared from the list #
The list shows live sessions first, then upcoming ones, then only the two most recent ended sessions. No action is needed. Long lists fold extra sessions under “N more sessions”.
Tutor LMS or Academy LMS pages break after activating LifterLMS #
LifterLMS shares the lesson post type with Tutor LMS and the /course/ address with Academy LMS.
- Keep only one of these LMS plugins active on the site.
- Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes.
Frequently asked questions #
Can I use LifterLMS and Tutor LMS or Academy LMS together? #
No. They clash on the same site. LearnPress can run beside LifterLMS.
Does a live session count toward course progress? #
No. The meeting is shown inside a lesson or on the course page. It is never a curriculum item, so progress does not change.
Can one meeting be on several courses? #
Yes. Add one row per course or lesson in the Add to a course card.
Can a lesson hold more than one meeting? #
No. One meeting per lesson. A course page can list many.
Does it work with the LifterLMS block layout? #
Yes. The Live sessions list appears above the Course Syllabus block, and above the syllabus on the classic layout.
What happens when I delete a meeting? #
GoodMeet removes it from every course and lesson it was attached to.
Do students see Google connection prompts? #
No. Only admins and instructors see Google setup messages.
Security best practices #
- Keep Who can join on Course students for paid or private courses, so the Meet link stays with enrolled students.
- Give the LifterLMS Instructor role only to people who should schedule classes.
- Keep the Google JSON file off shared drives and delete your local copy once GoodMeet shows it as uploaded.
- Keep LifterLMS, GoodMeet, GoodMeet Pro and WordPress updated.
You’re ready to run live classes in LifterLMS #
Your LifterLMS courses now list their live sessions, and a lesson can show its own class card. Only enrolled students can join. Instructors schedule classes from their LifterLMS dashboard without wp-admin. Next, connect Google Classroom or read how the same setup works in LearnPress.
