# How to Add Google Drive Lessons and Files to Tutor LMS

Do you keep your course videos and worksheets in Google Drive and want to use them in **Tutor LMS**? You can easily do this with **DriveHub**.

Your lesson videos play straight from Google Drive and your exercise files download from it, so large videos never fill up your hosting space and you only keep one copy of each file.

Here is an easy, step-by-step guide to help you set it all up!

**Note:** This needs DriveHub Pro.

## Step 1: Install Tutor LMS

DriveHub adds Google Drive to the Tutor LMS course builder, so Tutor LMS needs to be there first:

- From your WordPress admin, click on **Plugins** > **Add New Plugin**.
- Search for **Tutor LMS**.
- Click **Install Now** and then **Activate**.

[![Tutor LMS in the Add Plugins search results](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-01-install-tutor-lms.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-01-install-tutor-lms.webp)

If Tutor LMS is already active, skip to the next step.

## Step 2: Install DriveHub and DriveHub Pro

Next, install the free DriveHub plugin:

- Go to **Plugins** > **Add New Plugin**.
- Search for **DriveHub**.
- Click **Install Now** and then **Activate**.

[![Search for DriveHub in Add Plugins, then click Install Now and Activate](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-00-install-drivehub.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-00-install-drivehub.webp)

The Tutor LMS integration is a Pro feature, so add **DriveHub Pro** on top. Read [How to Install and Activate DriveHub Pro](https://sovlix.com/docs/how-to-install-and-activate-drivehub-pro/) if you haven't done that yet.

## Step 3: Connect Your Google Drive Account

DriveHub needs a connected Google account before it can show your course files:

- Open **DriveHub** and click on **Start Setup**.
- Click on **Add Account**.
- Choose the Google account that holds your course material and allow the permissions.

Read our [step by step setup guide](https://sovlix.com/docs/drivehub-manual-google-drive-connection-setup-guide/) to avoid any confusion.

## Step 4: Turn On the Tutor LMS Integration

Now switch the integration on:

- Go to **DriveHub** > **Integrations**.
- Find the **Tutor LMS** card under **Stores and courses**.
- Turn on the switch. The card now says **Active**.
- Click on **Save changes** in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

## Step 5: Add Google Drive as a Video Source (Tutor LMS Settings)

Tutor LMS only offers the video sources you allow, so add DriveHub's source to the list:

- Go to **Tutor LMS** > **Settings** and open the **Course** tab.
- Find **Preferred Video Source**.
- Tick **Google Drive (DriveHub)**.
- Click on **Save Changes**.

[![Google Drive (DriveHub) ticked under Preferred Video Source](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-03-tick-video-source.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-03-tick-video-source.webp)

Don't forget this step. Without it, **Google Drive (DriveHub)** does not show up in the course builder.

## Step 6: Add a Google Drive Video to a Lesson (Course Builder)

Now open the course you want to work on:

- Go to **Tutor LMS** > **Courses** and open a course, or click **Add New** (we'll use **Photography Basics**).
- Open the **Curriculum** tab and add or edit a lesson (for example **Light and Composition**).
- In the lesson's video section, click on **Add from URL**.
- Choose **Google Drive (DriveHub)** as the source.
- Click on **Browse Google Drive** under the URL field.

[![Google Drive (DriveHub) chosen as the lesson video source, with the Browse Google Drive button below](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-04-browse-drive-video.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-04-browse-drive-video.webp)

**Tip:** The same button works for the course **Intro Video** on the course's main settings screen.

## Step 7: Pick the Video and How It Plays

The **Browse Google Drive** window opens. First, choose how the video plays under **Video Playback Type**:

- **Embed Player** uses Google Drive's own player. It loads fast and puts no load on your server, but the video must be shared publicly in Google Drive.
- **Direct Media** streams the video through your site. You don't have to change the file's sharing, but it may load a little slower.

If you want students to be able to open the video in Google Drive's own preview, turn on **Allow Popout** too.

Then pick the file:

- Open the **Videos** folder and tick your lesson video. Only videos show up here, so your PDFs and slides don't get in the way.
- Click on **Confirm Selection**.

[![Video Playback Type and one video ticked in the Browse Google Drive window](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-05-pick-lesson-video.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-05-pick-lesson-video.webp)

DriveHub fills the video URL for you and adds it to the lesson.

**Tip:** Not sure which to pick? Use **Direct Media** when your course videos are private in Google Drive. Use **Embed Player** for videos that are already shared with "Anyone with the link".

## Step 8: Add Google Drive Exercise Files

You can also give students worksheets, slides or project files from Google Drive:

- Save the lesson first. DriveHub can only attach files to a lesson that already exists.
- Scroll down to **Exercise Files** in the lesson editor. When you open a lesson, DriveHub first loads the Drive files already saved for that lesson (you see **Loading saved Drive files…** for a moment), so each lesson always shows its own list.
- Click on **Browse Google Drive**.
- Tick the files you want (for example **Onboarding Pack.pdf** and **Project Brief.docx**), then click on **Confirm Selection**.

[![The Browse Google Drive button under Exercise Files in the lesson editor](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-06-browse-exercise-files.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-06-browse-exercise-files.webp)

Your files now show as a list above the button:

- To remove a file, click on the **×** next to it.
- Click on **Save Google Drive Files**. The note next to it changes to **Saved.**

The **Save Google Drive Files** button only appears once the lesson's saved files have finished loading, so you can't overwrite them by accident.

[![Two Google Drive files listed under Exercise Files, with the Save Google Drive Files button](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-07-save-exercise-files.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-07-save-exercise-files.webp)

Don't forget to click **Save Google Drive Files**. Saving the lesson alone does not store your Google Drive exercise files.

## Step 9: Publish the Course

Once your lessons are ready, make the course live:

- Click on **Publish** (or **Update**) at the top of the course builder.

[![The Update button in the course builder header](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-08-publish-course.webp)](https://sovlix.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/drivehub-tutor-lms-08-publish-course.webp)

## Step 10: See It on Your Course Page

And that's it. When students open the **Light and Composition** lesson, the video plays straight from Google Drive, with the player you chose in Step 7.

The lesson also gets an **Exercise Files** tab. Students see each Google Drive file there with its size, and click it to download.

## Benefits of Using DriveHub with Tutor LMS

- **Save hosting space:** Long lesson videos stay in Google Drive, not on your server.
- **Private videos still play:** Choose **Direct Media** and keep your videos private in Drive.
- **Worksheets in one place:** Exercise files come from the same Drive folders you already use.
- **Update once:** Replace a file in Google Drive and every lesson that uses it follows.
- **Works with Tutor's own files:** Drive files sit next to any attachments you uploaded the normal way.

With **DriveHub** and **Tutor LMS**, building a course from your Google Drive takes just a few clicks.

## Troubleshooting

- **Google Drive (DriveHub) is not in the source list:** Tick it under **Preferred Video Source** (Step 5), and check that the **Tutor LMS** card is on in **DriveHub** > **Integrations**.
- **The Browse Google Drive button is missing:** Make sure **Google Drive (DriveHub)** is the chosen source. Your WordPress role also needs access to the DriveHub **File Browser**.
- **"Save the lesson first, then add Drive files.":** Save the lesson, open it again, then click **Save Google Drive Files**.
- **"Could not load the saved Drive files. Reopen the lesson before changing them.":** Close the lesson and open it again. DriveHub hides the save button until the list loads, so your saved files stay safe.
- **The embedded video does not play:** With **Embed Player**, the video must be shared publicly in Google Drive. Share it, or pick the video again with **Direct Media**.
