Custom WordPress plugin development, and beyond
Sovlix is the studio behind MeetingHub, DriveHub, GoodMeet, ZooMeet, TogMeet and WeMeet, all six live on WordPress.org. Most of what we build for clients is WordPress too. The rest is whatever the job actually needs.
- A new plugin or theme, built from scratch.
- A custom feature or change inside a plugin or theme you already run.
- Fixing, maintaining or speeding up something that exists.
- A website build or redesign.
- Ecommerce: WooCommerce, Shopify or another store.
- An integration, an API or a migration: memberships and LMS, payment gateways, REST APIs, third-party services.
- Automating something currently done by hand.
- A web, mobile or desktop app.
Before you ask
- How much does a custom project cost?
- It depends on the scope: how many services it has to talk to, whether a design already exists, and whether it has to pass a review like WordPress.org. Rather than force your project into a package, we scope it and quote a price for that scope. The form asks for a budget range so the first reply can tell you whether what you want fits it, before either of us spends a week finding out.
- I only need one small thing changed. Is that too small?
- No. There is no minimum project size and the lowest band on the form is under $1,000. If the change is to a Sovlix plugin you already run, both routes are open: ask support to add it to the plugin for everybody, which is free and goes on the roadmap, or brief it here and we build it for your site on your timeline.
- How soon can you start, and who replies?
- The developer who would do the work reads your brief and replies, not an account manager. We take a few projects at a time, so the first reply carries the real timing rather than a date you find out about after committing to something.
- How do payments work?
- It depends on the size of the job. Something small is one payment. Anything longer is split across stages named in a written scope, so you are never paying ahead for work that has not been described yet. The split is agreed before any code is written, and a change to the scope is priced and approved the same way rather than assumed.
- I know the problem, not the solution. Is that enough to send?
- Yes. Tell us what is going wrong, what you have now, and what a good outcome looks like. Working out the shape of the build is our job, not yours. If we think you are asking for the wrong thing, the first reply says so and proposes what we would build instead.
- Will you work on a codebase you did not write?
- Usually yes, including one another developer left unfinished. We read the code first so the quote is based on what is actually there rather than on hope. If what is there cannot be saved, we tell you that instead of quoting for a rescue we do not believe in.
- Everything you publish is WordPress. Can you build something that is not?
- Yes: web apps, mobile apps, Shopify apps, browser extensions, dashboards and internal tools. WordPress is what we publish, not the limit of what we write, and the same people do both. When the shape of a job does not fit how we work, we say so quickly rather than learning on your budget.
- Will you sign an NDA, and who gets access to my site?
- We sign one on request, before you send anything you would rather we did not hold. Access goes to the developer doing the work and to nobody else: a staging copy where one exists, the narrowest permissions that do the job, and credentials you can revoke the day we hand over.
- Who owns the code?
- You do. The full source is handed over with plain-English docs for whoever maintains it next. For WordPress plugins and themes the GPL applies exactly as it does to everything else on this site, and we would rather say that now than surprise you later. If you are having something built to sell or ship under your own name, that is fine and it is written into the scope.
- What happens after handover?
- For 30 days we fix anything we broke, at no charge. After that you can keep us on monthly for maintenance and small changes, or come back only when you need something and have it scoped like any other job. Neither is automatic, and nothing renews unless you ask for it.
